Concerned citizens, parents, students, business owners, professionals, job-seekers, and residents of District 17,

We are facing a crisis. This crisis threatens our future prosperity and safety, and endangers our long-held American values and principles. As a country, we are confronted with pervasive unemployment, unaffordable health care, and unsustainable levels of government debt. But we can change this. We have the fast-dissolving opportunity to alter the course of our nation for the better before the mistakes of our past become irreversible. District 17, I have a prescription to get America healthy again.

My name is Evelyn Li and I am running to be your Congresswoman.

I have lived in this district for over twenty years, and understand the plight of this community. I am a cardiologist, business owner, mother, and active community member devoted to the preservation of the principles that have made this country the inspiration of the world. I am here to fight for your rights and privileges that have made this nation such a wonderful place to live: strong families, frugal government, sound education, a prosperous economy and a formidable military defense.

I believe in the power of the American dream, and it was this dream that catapulted me from a childhood of poverty to an adulthood of prosperity. I want every individual to have that same opportunity. With our current weak economy and unemployment at an all-time high, those dreams are slipping away from millions of Americans. We need new ideas, new synergy, and new life within the walls of Congress to rehabilitate those dreams and set America on a new, brighter trajectory.

This is not a time for "politics as usual," for fighting between Democrats and Republicans; rather, we need representatives that have a vision for cooperation and compromise. We need representatives who will fight for the totality of the human experience, not just the individual and powerful agendas of special interest groups. My opponent has been fighting for special interest groups who have historically financed his campaign, whereas I have spent my own hard-earned money to campaign and fight for your rights. I have not sold my political preferences for money; I have not and will never sell my principles for political gain.

Who am I, a common citizen, to represent you?

I have a record of success as an advocate for the vulnerable and underrepresented. I have represented three medical societies to successfully postpone Medicare cuts. I firmly believe a strong country needs to protect its weak and sick. Come this December, there will be another 26% Medicare cut that will threaten the lives of our elderly. When the situation calls for a crusader, you can count on me to pull through for this country.

I have been a doctor for 30 years and worked in both public and private hospitals. I've started and run small businesses that have employed over twenty employees at a time. I know how we can create an environment that creates jobs and save money in health care, because I've intimately experienced the push and pull of economic policies in my clinics, everyday. After 12 years of our Congressman in office, our country has turned to the worse . He has voted for laws that have bankrupted our government and sold our future to special interests.

It is time to elect a representative that has a new vision for America.
